Annie Strachan (she/her) is an artist and craftsperson whose work explores sustainable making through the lens of traditional handicrafts. Drawn to undervalued and unexpected materials, she transforms these into functional objects of value.

Working from her garden studio, she designs, builds, and photographs all of her own work. With this hands on approach, she ensures that each piece is entirely unique, bearing the mark of her distinctive use of colour, texture, and form.

She trained in Fine Art at Chelsea College of Art & Design and applies techniques drawn from slab building in ceramics and elements of carpentry to the construction of her work.

Felt Collections, Shaped (2024)

She regularly exhibits with and sells work through independant curators and galleries too, like Felt Collections, Gallery No. 32, Dohm Store and Van Gogh House (exhibition archive here).

Her work sits at the intersection of design and craft, leading to collaborations with a variety of interiors and homeware brands too, from USM Modular Furniture to Studio 2LG, Christopher Farr Cloth, Domenica Marland, Prospect Refuge, Brittross, Russell Loughlan, Glassette, Narchie, Atelier100 and L’absurde Objet.

She has been featured in established publications, including It’s Nice That and Dezeen, and in 2024, was named one of House & Garden magazine’s Design 100.

Her practice is also informed by post-war Hollywood set design, particularly the films of directors such as Douglas Sirk and those starring Doris Day, alongside both Modernist and Postmodernist architectural themes.

Annie has collaborated with many brands, producing installations that range from custom lamps for Selfridges’ Christmas windows to a water fountain made from reclaimed materials for Clerkenwell Design Week. She has also created one-off pieces for The Salad Project’s Notting Hill restaurant, Margate House Hotel and High Dive in Margate, and Joyce in Brockley.

Annie has participated in several festivals and events, including London Craft Week, Deptford X Arts Festival, Esturary Festival, Pagemasters Art Fair, Museum of the Home’s Yard Sale, D.I.Y. Art Market and London Design Fair.
