BIOGRAPHY
Annie Strachan

Craft, with a focus on sustainable processes and techniques, is central to Annie’s practice. Working with recycled materials including; wood, textiles and paper mâché, she creates small batch and one-off functional sculptures intended for everyday use in the home.
Led by her training in ceramics and sculpture at Chelsea College of Art & Design, Annie applies techniques taken from slab building and woodwork. Set design, as seen in post-war Hollywood cinema, influences her approach to texture, colour and materiality. While architectural themes including; Modernism and Postmodernism are reflected through the creation of playful abstract forms.
Every piece is a original sculpture, created by hand in her garden studio. Annie starts by building an armature from recycled card. This is then followed by the meticulous process of layering paper pulp over the base, adding her unique style of textural relief.
Annie has previously collaborated with and been commissioned by brands and institutions, including Selfridges, London Design Fair, Margate House Hotel, Glassette, Atelier100, Narchie, Domenica Marland, Felt Collections, Studio 2LG, Pagemasters, Prospect Refuge, Deptford X, San Mei Gallery, Museum of the Home, Makers Made and London Centre for Book Arts.
Her work has been featured in established publications, from It’s Nice That’s to Dezeen. In 2024 Annie was named one of House & Garden magazine’s Design 100 and collaborated with ceramicist Kelly Jessiman for a joint solo exhibition, curated by Felt Collections at Staffordshire Street Gallery in Peckham.
In addition to her practice, Annie also documents her research into design and interiors on Substack and produces a regular video series called, Making Things With Annie. These videos explore accessible ways of making, using affordable or sustainable materials.
